Physical Education

 
 

Students follow an exciting curriculum experiencing a wide range of activities with the aim of improving them as a performer, not just in the application of their skills but also the cognitive, social, personal and health aspects of participating in physical activity.

AIMS:

  • To provide a varied, purposeful and enjoyable Physical Education and Games programme. We aim to give every pupil the chance to achieve, thereby increasing self-esteem and confidence.
  • To develop teamwork, skills and identify talent, ensuring all pupils reach their potential.
  • To develop a positive attitude towards Physical Education and sport, encouraging participation in post-school recreation and the pursuit of a healthy lifestyle

 

KS3

KS3 ACTIVITIES - 6 lesson units

X Indoor Games – eg. badminton, basketball, dodgeball, volleyball but not exclusively
Outdoor Games – e.g cricket, capture the flag, football, handball, hockey, netball, rounders, tennis, rugby and ultimate frisbee but not exclusively.
Knowledge – Speak like a Sports Scientist – anatomy and physiology.

Students will receive 3 x 1 hour 10 minute lessons over 2 weeks for Years 7 and 8. 4 x 1 hour and 10 minute lessons for Year 9. and will enjoy using a wide range of fantastic facilities:

  • Fitness Hut
  • Sports Hall (4 Badminton courts)
  • All weather pitch (used for Hockey, Football, Tennis - 9 courts)
  • Hard court area for 2 Netball courts
  • Playing fields - 2 Rugby/Football pitches and grids plus athletics track
  • Swimming is at Blackbrook Pavilion.

KS4

Year 10 and 11 Core PE Lessons:

Students receive 1 x 1 hour 10 minute lesson weekly which will based on their choice of themselves as “an active personality” are they competitive, recreational, fitness motivated, leadership or reluctant. Every 3-4 weeks the sports will change so the pupils will enjoy a variety of activities. For the competitive groups, these sports will include those that may be used as part of the GCSE practical assessment, which may include many of those from the KS3 curriculum continued. For the recreational groups, we try to include a range of activities that promote enjoyment of PE and physical, social and mental benefits to enhance their KS4 experience. Pupils may at times be given a choice of the activity they complete for a particular week or block.

Sports Science GCSE PE

Students also have the opportunity to opt for the AQA course in Sports Science GCSE P.E..

  • AQA Board examination
  • 60% two paper exam at the end of the 2 year course.
  • Content Paper 1 Human Body and Movement analysis:
    • Applied anatomy and physiology
    • Movement analysis
    • Physical training
    • Use of data
  • Paper 2 Socio-cultural influence and well being:
    • Sports psychology
    • Socio-cultural influences
    • Health, fitness and well-being
    • Use of data
  • 40% Practical performance.
    • 3 activities, one individual, one team and another of either.
    • Assessed skills and game/full context.
    • Assessed by staff and moderated by AQA
