Careers Curriculum

Below is information of the careers curriculum which we provide for Heathfield students in each Year Group. (NB Some of these opportunities are subject to change due to current COVID guidelines)

YEAR 10
  • Virtual careers fair – students need to register.

  • NSSW HE campus visit – potentially target students and aspire students (date tbc)
  • NSSW level 3 options (pre-recorded)
  • NSSW higher & degree apprenticeships – potential assembly rather than workshop
  • Future Thursdays- careers information virtual workshops
  • Careers Week events: 7-12 March
  • Careers enrichment days including college presentations and workshops, employability skills and different career sector workshops.
  • NSSW careerpilot pre-16 skills (date tbc)
  • Careers advisor – assembly and small group appointments
YEAR 11
  • Post-16 information presentations from colleges/apprenticeships (in school/virtual or recordings)
  • College Open evenings
  • Virtual careers fair (can access in tutor time and after school if registered)
  • Action planning, college applications and apprenticeships
  • Careers advisor – assembly and tutor visits and 1:1 appointments
  • PSHE day (involving study skills and cv writing)
  • Apprenticeships Virtual Parents and student workshop.
  • College open evenings
  • Tutor time – update action plan, college applications and apprenticeships
  • Careers advisor – 1:1 appointments
  • KS5 transition day (targeted groups and parents)
  • NSSW higher & degree apprenticeships – potential assembly visit rather than workshop
  • Future Thursdays- careers information virtual workshops
  • Careers Week events: 7-12 March
  • Careers advisor – 1:1 appointments - Specific targeting of students who have not applied to College.

YEAR 7 - EXPLORING JOBS AND CAREERS.

Sessions to include: careers I know, A-Z of jobs, job sectors, hot jobs bingo, making career choices, name that job, dream job.

YEAR 8 - CAREERS & SELF DEVELOPMENT AND USING LABOUR MARKET INFORMATION.

Sessions to include: desert island survival, finding out about employability skills, knowing your skills and strengths, jobs skills and adverts, understanding and using labour market information.

YEAR 9 - PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN AND OPTION CHOICES.

Sessions to include: those found on the character education system for the personal development plan, researching qualifications, what or who influences career/option choices, what next – choosing KS4 options.

YEAR 10 - WORK EXPERIENCE AND CAREERS.

Sessions to include: those found on the character education system for C.V. writing, planning and preparation for work experience, my future and employability skills update.

YEAR 11 - MAKING CHOICES POST-16.

Sessions to include: pre-recorded videos from local colleges, information about apprenticeships and t levels, making choices – researching different qualifications and pathways, action planning.
