Year 6 Welcome

Dear Year 6 students Parents and Carers

Re: Transition to Heathfield Community School

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for choosing Heathfield Community School for your child’s secondary education. We look forward to working with you over the coming years to support your child to fulfil their potential, both academically and personally.

This is a very unusual time for us all, with uncertainty on a national level around how transition to secondary school will work during the current pandemic. I am sure you share with us the hope that life will return to our previous normal as soon as possible, however we do need to consider the likelihood that a number of our usual transition activities may need to be postponed or altered to meet any guidance issued by the government.

An example of this would be the transition days, where previously we have had the whole of the incoming Year 7 cohort in school for two days to meet their tutor and other members of their tutor groups. We are unlikely to be able to do this in the same way due to social distancing requirements, however we will as a minimum, aim to provide a video introduction to key staff and a tour of the buildings in preparation for their start in September.

As a parent of two young children myself, I am sure that you share my concerns and anxieties around their return to school. I can assure you we will apply all recommendations suggested by the government in order to keep our young people safe.

One element of the transition process which can go ahead as normal is the distribution of the enclosed documents which will provide you with information about our school:

We will be in touch again over the coming weeks, but for now we would like to send you and your families our best wishes and look forward to meeting you and the next generation of Heathfield students.

Yours sincerely

Karl Husband
Deputy Head
